I’ve Had It With Body Shaming

stop body shamingI had a different blog planned for today, but something happened when I went to lunch and it needs to be talked about. I’ve had it with body shaming. Totally had it. Everyone is beautiful, no matter their size or shape, remember that! Here’s what happened.

Today I ordered a salad for lunch at a pizza/sub shop. Seems reasonable, right? Apparently not. They called my order and I went up to the counter to grab it. As I was walking out, there was a group of men waiting for their lunch to be ready. When I walked by one of them loudly proclaimed, “Someone get that girl a piece of pizza, she needs to eat something.”

I have one hundred percent had it with body shaming. What does it matter to that guy how my body looks? I’ve always been thin, I can’t change that about myself and I wouldn’t want to. Thin shaming, fat shaming, it’s all the same. As long as you’re healthy and happy with your body, it’s no one’s business but your own. When I woke up this morning I had no intention of trying to impress a stranger in a sub shop. Clearly that guy isn’t aware, but not everyone was put on this Earth to please him.

So, instead of just letting me walk by and enjoy my day, that man felt the need to be an asshole. I’m confident with my body, but that’s not the case with everyone. I don’t care whether that stranger approved of my body or not, but body shaming still isn’t okay. I want girls and guys out there to always remember that everyone is beautiful in their own way, and that’s what makes life interesting.

P.s. I really should have taken this guy up on his offer, I love a good slice of pizza.

  1. you should have stopped and asked him in front of his friends if he was attempting to make you feel bad. Does he act this way with everyone that walks by. What is it about himself that he finds so disgusting that he feels the need to distract attention from himself. I bet there were plenty of things you could have commented on about him. Make his friends laugh at him instead of with him.

    • I absolutely agree! I wish I had been quick enough to come up with a response, but I was shocked that anyone would act that way! I only hope he smartens up in the future.
