DIY Ugly Christmas Sweater (Blogmas Day 18)

DIY ugly christmas sweater

My friend is back home from Cali for the holidays, so naturally we had an ugly sweater party this past weekend. I decided to DIY it instead of buying one, figured it might be more fun. So, I thought I would share what I did & how it came out! It doesn’t get much uglier than making your own ugly Christmas sweater, lol.

I got this black crewneck in a men’s large so it would be big & comfy, it was like $5. I had these pom-poms from when we made our own halloween shirts & thought they would be perfect to sew onto the sleeves. They kinda remind me of snow. So I pulled the thread through the sweatshirt & then through the pom pom & repeated, then tied a knot to finish it up.

Then I took this la croix box & wrote ‘Merry Litmas’ and used a box cutter to cut out the letters so I could use it as a stencil. My friends have had a text group going for like a year now called ‘Litmas’ so, I figured it was fitting for the ugly sweater shindig. I put the stencil down where I wanted it and then used a paintbrush & white fabric paint for the letters. Starting to feel truly festive, getting into the ugly Christmas sweater spirit.

Last minute decision to swap out the fake lights for this wire strand of lights with little bells. It has three light settings to stay steady, flash on & off, and fade on & off, lol, so extra. I bent the wire around the words & then added some stitches every so often to sew the lights onto my ugly sweater. And it’s done! I wore it with wintery-patterned leggings & some cute ugly festive socks.

Always so happy when I’m surrounded by my friends. Also shoutout to my gram for teaching me the basics of sewing.
