THE HOLIDAY season doesn’t always have to be about buying, spending & gifts. There are LOTS of ways to have a good time without breaking the bank. AND ways to give meaningful gifts to your loved ones without crying over your credit card balance. SO I’m sharing 12 ways to save this holiday season so you can make the season bright AND keep some of that bread in your wallet.
ways to save this holiday season:
- TAKE A DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK
- If your neighbors go all out with their festive Christmas lights, you can take a little drive & check out their beautiful decorations FOR FREE.
- BAKE SOMETHING FESTIVE
- Whether you’re putting out milk & cookies for santa, or wanting to try out a new recipe to share with friends. Baking cookies (or any other treat) can be a fun & delicious way to get into the Christmas spirit!
- LEMON COOKIES
- SUGAR COOKIES
- BAKED CHEX MIX
- BUY HOLIDAY STUFF AT THE END OF THE SEASON
- Like wrapping paper, decor, or festive clothes. FOR EXAMPLE, the red santa jumpsuit in my festive header, got that on sale last year after the holidays.
- SHOP LOCAL FOR YOUR PRESENTS
- Support small business by shopping local this season. NOT ONLY will your gifts be more unique & meaningful, but you can also save money WHILE helping your community.
- SHOP SMALL & SUPPORT LOCAL FOR THE HOLIDAYS
- MAKE YOUR OWN PRESENTS
- If you’re feeling especially creative, you can make the gifts yourself. Take your crafty skills & use them to make meaningful gifts for the people who love you.
- HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT
- PRETTY cheap to make some popcorn & throw on a festive movie. Whether you’re a cheesy-Hallmark-movie type, or can’t get enough of Elf, there’s plenty of holiday movies to choose from!

- PLAN OUT A BUDGET
- Before you decide what you’re buying everyone, plan out about how much you want to spend. This will make it easier to stay in budget when you’re at the store picking stuff out!
- YOUTUBE & CHILL
- It’s ACTUALLY free to find festive videos to watch on YouTube & it only costs money if you need a bunch of candy & snacks to eat while you binge watch (spoiler, you do).
- MY CHANNEL – post mostly vlogs, my latest was a MCDONALD’S MUKBANG 🍟
- GO SLEDDING, OR HAVE A SNOWBALL FIGHT
- Dust off that sled & find a giant hill to go down. OR build an igloo, make a bunch of snowballs & throw them at your friends.
- GRAB A HOT CHOCOLATE & HEAD TO A CHRISTMAS MARKET
- The hot beverage is to keep you warm while you take in the festive sights. You don’t HAVE to buy something, you can just enjoy the atmosphere (& maybe buy just one thing).
- MAKE A LIST (or two, maybe three)
- LISTS help you stay organized & cut down on the stress of remembering who you still have to buy for. AND can help you stick to your budget.
- SPEND TIME WITH YOUR FRIENDS & FAMILY
- It can be FREE if you want.
and when to splurge
- Buy that sweater you’ve been lusting after that just went on sale.
- Grab a (boozy) hot cocoa while you’re strolling around the chilly streets.
- When you find the PERFECT present for someone who loves you.
- LOVE – give & get as much as ya can.
- Eat the damn cookie.

Yes to Christmas baking! And driving around your block to see all the beautiful decorations is a great idea. I’ll definitely be splurging on food over the Christmas period and eating whatever the heck i want 😂 xx

I am still waiting on snow ready for sledging but I have definitely watched festive movies, baked cookies, ice skated and visited a Christmas Market. They are all such fun and cheap things to do to get into the spirit of Christmas. I know so many people that spend money they do not have at Christmas and I think it is such a shame as I would be equally happy with a card and cookies. 💚
